Zaporizhzhia orphanage was built in 1981 in the resort area of Zaporizhzhia - on Veliky Lug on the street. Donetskay, 18. It is designed for 155 inhabitants. Of these, orphans and children without parental care - 61 people.
Zaporizhzhia orphanage is a social medical institution for permanent residence of children, boys from 4 to 18 years old with mental retardation. The causes of mental retardation can be birth trauma, Down's disease, epilepsy, conflict of Rh factors of parents, intracranial pressure, etc.
According to the Regulations on the youth department, part of the inhabitants can live in a boarding school up to 25 years. After graduating from the boarding school, inhabitants are sent to psycho-neurological institutions for adults in the villages of Kirovo, Preslav and Orlovo, Zaporizhzhia region.
The boarding school is under the jurisdiction of the main department of labor and social protection of the population of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, is an object of communal property and is financed from the regional budget.

In their free time, adult pupils perform various works on cleaning the territory, its improvement, and participate in loading and unloading operations.
Instilling self-service skills in a mentally retarded person is a very long process. Ultimately, not being able to even speak at first, a graduate can not only serve himself, but also simply read, write, count - facts that speak for themselves.
Every year a group of ward orphans (20-36 people) have a rest on the coast of the Sea of Azov in the recreation camp "Orlyatko" in the city of Genichesk.
Throughout the year, children go for a walk in the forest, located along the banks of the Dnieper. On holidays, children from music schools arrange concerts and performances for the inhabitants of the boarding school. Inhabitants themselves also participate in amateur performances.
